Taking the time to mark thisanniversary with renewed efforts on the Cities Appeal is consistent withCouncil’s values and offers a meaningful opportunity to engage localresidents—especially young people—in global citizenship  andpeacebuilding. From 6 May to 1 July 2024, thecommunity was invited to provide feedback via an online survey on what safetymeans and how safe they feel in the Inner West. During the engagement period2,003 people visited the Your Say Inner West project page, and 226 peoplecompleted the survey. Early learning staff also applytrauma informed practice to identify potential concerns where a child or familymember may disclose information about concerns for their psychological orphysical safety.
Pack the Bus happens every year in November and is acollaboration between the three Wairarapa councils, roof repair markham ontario Tranzit and More FM. Thebus travels to the 5 Wairarapa towns and schools collecting gifts and donationsfor local Wairarapa families who could use a little help at this time ofyear. Pack the Bus highlights the amazing generosity of our widercommunity. CDC supported pack the bus again this year and withsupport from the community and local schools in the district. Thiswonderful initiative will help to support almost 500 families andover 1000 tamariki to celebrate Christmas this year.

At the commencement of the implementation of the CustomerExperience Strategy, to ensure appropriate attention, action and responsivenessto community issues, all community interactions were responded to by therelevant Senior Manager. This response included contact details, includingemail and phone numbers. As expected, this resulted in a significant increasein community contacts to senior staff within the organisation, often on routineand everyday enquiries. The first strategic goal ofCouncil’s Customer Experience Strategy is “Supporting ourstaff to excel”.
The improvement in customerservice performance has been sustained, consistently surpassing the 90%benchmark in the bi-annual Mystery Shopper program, with a record-high score of96.28% in May 2024. Mandatory training on‘Complaints OMS’ and programs such as ‘Plain English’will enhance staff awareness in addressing concerns and stress clearcommunication, fostering stronger customer relationships and improving servicedelivery. Council willempower staff to deliver exceptional service through improved processes and aculture of responsiveness. Accountability to our community for the standard ofservice provided remains a priority. This sectionhighlights the achievements in improving the customer experience against thefour strategic priorities outlined in the Strategy.

As part of an expression ofinterest under the Main Streets Revitalisation program, Loyalty Square, Balmainwas identified by the Balmain/Rozelle Chamber of Commerce and other communitymembers for improvements. The proposed list of FallenSoldiers to be included on the additional wall contains 196 names, with thecriteria for inclusion being that they were Killed in Action or Died of Wounds,and lived in the  Suburbs of Balmain, East Balmain and Birchgrove. In December 2024, the Office ofLocal Government released a Consultation Draft ModelCode of Meeting Practice (Consultation Draft) and sought feedback. At anOrdinary Council meeting on 18 February 2025, Council considered a draftsubmission in respect of the Consultation Draft and resolved to approve thesubmission to be sent to the Office of Local Government.
This engagement willinclude reviewing performance, costs, and timelines, providing improvementrecommendations, and preparing monthly reports for Inner West Council throughout the project. In this regard, CO.OP Studioswere appointed as the lead design consultant in mid-2023 to provide allarchitectural and engineering design services. CO.OP and their sub-consultantteam have extensive experience around Australia though their network of stateoffices designing elite level sporting and aquatic centre projects.
This approach helps strengthen communityties and supports deeper emotional connections to place. That Council provides a report to the September 2025 Council Meeting outlining how the Kids Play / Kids Say program will operate, including how children will participate, the level of input they will have, and the criteria for engagement (e.g. playground size). Council has hosted live screenings of sports before due to theirpopularity with residents, including the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023,and provides a live screening of Mardi Gras on annual basis. In addition tochampioning the Koori Knockout locally, hosting a screening like this isanother opportunity to make historic events like this more accessible to InnerWest residents and represents a significant economic opportunity forsurrounding businesses. Onthe 80th anniversary of this tragedy the Inner West Council canrenew discussion in our community about peace and disarmament, and placeadditional pressure on our Federal Government to finally take action for thefuture of our children and the international community. Our Council has a proud history of supportingpeace, sustainability, and community education.

Areport on the outcome of the Expression of Interest process and any request forconsent to assignment of the lease will be brought to the first availableCouncil meeting after such a request is made. In 2013 the former MarrickvilleCouncil, following a procurement process, awarded Camperdown Projects Pty Ltd (CamperdownProjects), a wholly owned subsidiary of Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL, a Leasefor 4 x 5 years terms, commencing 21 June 2016. Residentinformation was provided as part of the moving-in process and Council has a strongon-going relationship with the St George Housing contact to address any issuesas they arise.
The gabled roof sweeps down to form the canopy for the verandah, supported on timber posts with a rendered wall. The windows to Sadlier Street have a timber framed awning and fixed pane openings, with similar openings to Redfern Street which are obscured by safety screens. The progress ofthis strategy will be reported to the Executive and the Audit Risk andImprovement Committee quarterly. InnerWest’s current asset management maturity is above ‘core’level and Council is working towards a more advanced maturity. The Strategy contains adetailed Asset Management Improvement Plan to guide this work. Therevised CSP includes a refreshed community vision statement, five strategicdirections (unchanged from previous  CSP), 18 outcomes and 43 strategies (highlevel actions).
This provides an exemption in thisinstance and as such she will remain in the meeting during discussion andvoting on the matter. CouncillorAtkins declared a pecuniary interest in Item 2 - 'Fairer Future for theInner West’ – Council-Led alternate Planning Approach for NewHousing due to their principal residence being within the areas identifiedin Item 2. Due to the significant portion of the LGA that is impacted by theproposed reforms, they made, prior to the meeting, a Special Disclosure inaccordance with the Code of Conduct. This provides an exemption in thisinstance and as such they will remain in the meeting during discussion andvoting on the matter. We offer a full range of services, from residential plumbing services to commercial.
This optimises circulation and accessibility routes acrossthe Square, and the ability for the square to cater for community events. Itsworth noting that the location beneath the fig tree conflicts with a former artpiece titled Seat Sculpture which was installed by Richard Goodwin in 1998. Inthis regard, the piece has been partially removed overtime due to its poorcondition, with only a timber seat which is broken and a post remaining. It isproposed to remove these elements as a part of the improvement works to allowthe most appropriate location for the memorial walls to proceed. Council is required under section440(7) of the Local Government Act 1993 (the Act) to review its Code ofConduct within the first 12 months after each local government election.

Access to natural ventilation is also compromised because of the noise conditions. An increase in residential dwellings would increase the number of occupants exposed to these adverse conditions. Regarding 1d, Council officers are satisfied that the current zoning of the site (MU1) is appropriate to allow the proposed mix of commercial / employment uses on the ground floor and residential above. The Panel’s concerns regarding the prematurity of the proposal are noted; however the site is well located and well serviced to provide new housing opportunities. There is strategic merit to the extent that the site is suitable for higher residential density which has the potential to increase housing supply.
